Overview of the Role

MedStar Medical Group is seeking a dedicated Operating Room Specialist to become a vital part of our healthcare team.

In this role, you will be entrusted with the intraoperative care of patients in the scrub position. You will collaborate with the Core Leader, OR, to provide orientation, training, and manage supply inventory tailored to specific surgical specialties. All responsibilities will be executed in alignment with applicable regulations and the operational standards of MedStar Medical Group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct patient care in the scrub capacity and support the RN (Registered Nurse) with circulating duties as assigned. Work closely with the Core Leader, OR, to orient new staff on instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and surgical procedures relevant to the designated specialty.
  • Oversee, assess, and update instrument sets, surgical supplies, and equipment, initiating orders for repairs or purchases in partnership with the Nurse Core Leader within the assigned specialty. Ensure a secure environment for patients during the surgical process.
  • Assist in the turnover of the operating room suite. Play a role in the development and execution of departmental and team objectives.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new personnel during their orientation in the assigned surgical specialty.
  • Engage in team meetings and training sessions to keep staff informed about updates or advancements in the assigned specialty. Take part in quality assurance audits within the unit/team.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • 1-2 years of experience in an Operating Room setting as a surgical technologist, encompassing major surgical specialties such as General, GYN, Urology, Neuro, Ortho, ENT, CV, and plastic surgery.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred.
