ABOUT THE ROLE
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers an exciting opportunity within our Aquatic Resources Division to contribute to the management of state-owned aquatic lands. The Mooring Buoy Technician will play a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the Mooring Buoy and Ports Programs, ensuring that our practices align with environmental objectives and customer service standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mooring Buoy Technician will be responsible for:
  • Mooring Buoy Program (60%)
    • Processing and reviewing mooring buoy applications.
    • Preparing and executing reauthorizations of agreements using automated systems.
    • Collaborating with internal staff to secure necessary authorizations.
    • Managing financial accounts related to the buoy program.
    • Generating maps for public notices and final agreements using GIS software.
    • Conducting habitat stewardship reviews and addressing concerns.
  • Ports Program (20%)
    • Creating and managing public notices on the DNR website.
    • Providing information for transmittal letters and ensuring compliance with agreements.
    • Updating authorization details and completing required file audits.
  • Aquatics Division Administrative Support (20%)
    • Assisting with reception duties and managing incoming mail.
    • Processing faxes and responding to requests for information.
    • Supporting the Aquatics Office Manager with various administrative tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate’s Degree in a relevant field and two years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in record management and understanding contract terms.
  • Ability to interpret laws and regulations related to land management.
  • Proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Office and GIS tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position primarily involves office work, with occasional fieldwork required. The candidate must be comfortable working in various weather conditions and around aquatic environments.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in field inventories and compliance follow-up.
  • Knowledge of database software and contract negotiation.
