About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Health Laboratory Administrator to join our team at the Ohio Department of Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and managing the Bureau of Public Health Laboratory in all activities, including testing, reporting results, test interpretation, and development of test methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise supervisory personnel, including microbiology supervisors
  • Develop and manage laboratory budgets and monitor expenditures
  • Participate in developing new programs, methodologies, and tests
  • Develop, implement, and enforce laboratory policies, procedures, and performance standards
  • Oversee all laboratory testing and research activities and provide scientific expertise to staff
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures related to maintaining the Ohio Public Health Laboratory's CLIA license
  • Develop strategic planning initiatives and provide guidance and oversight to the Bio Watch program and personnel
  • Ensure timely review and approval of laboratory procedure and safety manuals, proficiency testing results, and training and competency files

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the qualifications outlined by the Code of Federal Regulations Standard. This includes holding a doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution, or having at least two years of laboratory experience directing or supervising high complexity testing.
