Pediatric Surgical Support Specialist

In this position, you will provide essential intraoperative support to patients by serving as the scrub assistant, collaborating closely with the surgical team throughout various procedures.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse, completion of a Surgical Technology program, completion of a Registered Nurse program, or completion of a summer surgical tech extern program OR High School Diploma or Equivalent with two (2) years of relevant scrub experience.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in Surgical Technology is preferred.


CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following responsibilities outline the general nature of the work expected in this role. This list is not exhaustive and may include additional duties as assigned.

  • Employs quality aseptic techniques while functioning in both sterile and non-sterile roles in the operating room.
  • Assists the circulating RN in ensuring that all personnel maintain a sterile environment.
  • Conducts sponge, instrument, and needle counts in collaboration with the circulating RN, adhering to established protocols.
  • Supports the surgical team by preparing and passing sterile instruments during procedures.
  • Facilitates patient transport and positioning, including assisting with retraction and limb positioning under the surgeon's guidance.
  • Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures based on preference cards.
  • Participates in the sterilization and upkeep of both sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Monitors inventory levels; orders and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment as needed.
  • Identifies and removes expired items, following established disposal or reprocessing guidelines.
  • Engages in general cleaning duties within the department.
  • Performs equipment checks as assigned.
  • Assists in accurately recording patient charges.
  • Must be available for on-call duties with a response time of 30 minutes.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 40 pounds and maneuver heavy carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • Requires visual, auditory, and oral acuity, along with manual dexterity and technical skills.
  • Must be able to wear lead for prolonged periods.
