Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cook to join our team at the Eagle Lake Children's Center. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals for our unaccompanied children in care. Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook meals for children in care, following approved menus and health department standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe dining room and kitchen environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Assist in inventory management, monitoring food purchases and equipment, and controlling waste.
  • Wash, peel, and cut fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving.
  • Regulate oven, broiler, grill, and serving line temperatures to ensure food is stored and cooked at the correct temperature.
  • Serve meals according to approved menus and ensure children receive the daily required nutrients.
  • Maintain flexibility in response to changes in census and demographic of children in care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Proficiency in Spanish/English (written and spoken language skills) is highly preferred.
  • Successfully pass a TB test annually.
  • Successfully pass a drug screen.
  • Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state, federal, and local child protection agency registries.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in a food service preparation within a residential, educational, or daycare setting.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Food Handler Permit.
Work Environment

The Cook will work in the Eagle Lake Children's Center kitchen, preparing meals for children in care. The work environment is fast-paced and requires attention to detail, with a focus on providing excellent service and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
