Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Distribution Crew Leader to join our team at the City of Albany, GA. As a key member of our utility operations department, you will be responsible for overseeing the construction, maintenance, and repair of our water utility system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and assistance to crew members, assigning and assessing work, and providing training as needed.
  • Operate a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools used in water system construction, maintenance, and repair, including dump trucks, boom trucks, bulldozers, backhoes, forklifts, and more.
  • Transport, load, and unload equipment and materials used in projects.
  • Perform manual work functions associated with water system construction, maintenance, and repair, including locating and marking water lines, repairing pipeline breaks and leaks, installing water taps, and more.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition, including inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, and replacing fluids.
  • Maintain adequate stock of equipment, tools, supplies, and materials on department trucks for use at work sites.
  • Prepare and complete various forms, correspondence, reports, drawings, and other documents.
  • Communicate with supervisors, employees, city departments, contractors, and the public to coordinate work activities, review status of work, and exchange information.
  • Perform various tasks associated with maintaining buildings, grounds, and work areas, including mowing grass, planting sod, and picking up trash and litter.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed, providing assistance and/or backup coverage to other employees or departments.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, supplemented by vocational/technical training in equipment operation, pesticide/chemical application, or a related field.
  • Three years of previous experience and/or training involving water utility construction/maintenance work and equipment operation.
  • Valid Georgia EPD Water Distribution Operators Certificate.
  • Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s).
