Job Summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Pantry Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our Food Services department, you will play a vital role in coordinating the distribution of food pantry services to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate food service activities with the Food Services Coordinator to ensure efficient operations.
  • Document and distribute emergency food bags for non-registered clients, providing critical support to those in need.
  • Operate and maintain the food pantry, including receiving and storing food donations and deliveries.
  • Complete and file intake paperwork and necessary documents for clients, ensuring accurate data entry into the electronic system and SIMS database.
  • Communicate with Food Service/Pantry Coordinator on items/supplies needed to maintain a well-stocked pantry.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including client files and the pantry itself.
  • Work with the Food Services Coordinator to provide guidance to volunteers on general kitchen/warehouse needs.
  • Adhere to Health Department policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain certification in The Salvation Army's 'Safe from Harm' program.
  • Complete CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogens training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to Warehouse and Food Services program.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others as a team member.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through conflict management and professional communication practices.
  • Ability to work days, holidays, and emergent situations as necessary.
Physical Demands/Work Environment

This position requires basic business and office work in a warehouse setting. The individual must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that require standing, walking, sitting, and using hands. The use of office and computer equipment is necessary. Vision abilities require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally outdoors to attend meetings. The noise level is low to moderate.
