Kitchen Aide, Peoria Social Services

Position Title: Full Time Kitchen Aide

Report To: Food Services and Warehouse Manager

Qualifications:

Individual must be willing to become familiar and supportive of The Salvation Army mission and purpose of operation.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Individual must have or be willing to obtain the State of Illinois Food Service Sanitation License.

Qualifications: One year experience in meal preparation for large quantity of people preferred, significant experience may be considered in lieu of.

Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license. Must be able to meet the health requirement for personnel in Childcare Centers along with DCFS licensing clearance.

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.

Job Summary:

Individual must assist in preparing, serving, and cleaning up after meals for the following areas: Shelters, Child Care, and mass feeding programs. You will be able to work with a variety of individuals in a calm manner and must relate to individuals in a warm, understanding, and empathic nature without prejudice to the demographics of the homeless population. This position will be responsible for keeping the kitchen in good sanitary and working condition.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Illinois Department of Health food sanitation policies and procedures and ensure kitchen and food storage areas are in IDPH compliance.
  • Coordinate food service activities with Food Services Coordinator.
  • Oversee kitchen activities, meal preparation, serving of meals, and clean up.
  • Assist in managing food donations from community and incorporate into the daily menu/meal planning.
  • Assume meal service responsibilities in the absence of the Food Services and Warehouse Manager.
  • Prepare meals for the community meal program and Community Partners as needed.
  • Supervise volunteers and community services workers as needed.
  • Possess the ability to be a team player, self starter, and perform well with minimal supervision
  • Maintain a positive work environment atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned as related to Food Service.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary, especially in emergent situations.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

This position is required to do moderate to strenuous physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to lift 25+ pounds regularly, occasionally up to 50 pounds; bend twist, carry, sit and stand for an extended period. Specific vision abilities for this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to focus. The work environment for this position includes an environment with a high noise level.
