POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary responsibility of the Registered Nurse (RN) is to deliver direct nursing care to residents while overseeing the daily nursing operations conducted by nursing assistants. This oversight must align with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, as directed by the Director of Nursing or Unit Manager, to ensure the highest quality of care is consistently provided.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As an RN at Arboreta, your essential duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Informing nursing staff about new admissions, their anticipated arrival times, and room assignments.
  • Ensuring that accommodations are prepared for incoming residents.
  • Welcoming newly admitted residents and escorting them to their rooms as needed.
  • Participating in the orientation process for new residents and their families.
  • Accompanying physicians during rounds as necessary.
  • Requesting and coordinating diagnostic and therapeutic services as prescribed by the physician, following established procedures.
  • Consulting with the resident's physician regarding care, treatment, and rehabilitation as required.
  • Reviewing resident charts for specific treatments, medication orders, and dietary needs.
  • Implementing and upholding established nursing objectives and standards.
  • Conducting periodic checks to ensure prescribed treatments are administered correctly by certified nursing assistants and evaluating residents' physical and emotional conditions.
  • Ensuring that direct nursing care is provided by qualified personnel.
  • Collaborating with social and activity programs to align with nursing service schedules.
  • Notifying the attending physician and responsible parties in the event of an accident or incident involving a resident.
  • Informing the attending physician and next-of-kin/responsible party of any changes in a resident's condition.
  • Executing restorative and rehabilitative programs, including self-help and care.
  • Inspecting nursing service treatment areas daily to maintain cleanliness and safety.
  • Administering professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, and wound care as required.
  • Collecting specimens for laboratory tests as ordered.
  • Monitoring vital signs as necessary.
  • Ensuring that food brought into the facility complies with residents' dietary allowances.
  • Confirming that personnel providing direct care adhere to the resident's care plan and preferences.
  • Regularly checking on residents who are unable to call for assistance.
  • Meeting with residents and/or family members as necessary and reporting concerns to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Managing the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for residents.
  • Assisting in arranging transportation for discharged residents.
  • Ensuring that discharged residents are escorted to the designated pick-up area.
  • Informing family members of a resident's passing once the physician has been notified.
  • Contacting funeral homes as requested by the family and ensuring adherence to established post-mortem procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications include:
  • Graduation from an accredited RN nursing program.
  • Possession of a current, unencumbered nursing license in this state.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Capacity to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, as well as relevant laws and regulations pertaining to long-term care.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills with a willingness to work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret necessary programs and policies for quality care.
  • Patience, tact, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm, particularly when dealing with challenging residents.
  • Willingness to explore new methods and principles and integrate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Ability to communicate information regarding a resident's condition effectively.
