Data Engineering Director

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking a seasoned Data Engineering Director to lead our Commercial Data team. As a key member of our pricing leadership team, you will work closely with actuarial leaders across business units and the broader enterprise data and analytics function.
Key Responsibilities:- Build, lead, and manage a team of data engineers and analytics consultants, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and data warehouse solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and priorities.
- Ensure timely and successful delivery of data engineering projects.
- Develop and implement data engineering best practices and standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in data engineering with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
- Able to direct activities of others, motivate and develop staff.
- Proven experience in project management and leading technical teams.
- Strong programming skills in Python and in SQL.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure.
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts and data engineering tools.
- Experience developing ETL systems and designing data architectures (data warehouse).
- General insurance knowledge, knowledge of property and casualty industry preferred.
- Experience with Agile methodologies.
- Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Programming skills in R.
