Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team at Bowhead. As a Union Operator, you will be responsible for operating various pieces of heavy equipment, including road graders, rock trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, shovels, excavators, tractors, loaders, and forklifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy duty equipment as directed by the site superintendent and/or foreman.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must have operators proficiency on a variety of equipment, including road graders, rock trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, shovels, excavators, tractors, loaders, and forklifts.
  • Ability to perform independently without direct supervision.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate basic construction equipment, such as forklifts and loaders.
  • Ability to perform duties and operation of tools of the trade in strict compliance with OSHA rules.
  • Punctual and on-time work history.
  • Ability to work well within a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of heavy highway construction.
  • 1+ years of related experience in highway construction.
  • 1+ year of prior work history as an operator.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Punctual work history.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Membership in Local Union 302.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to have good motion of range for body and limbs.
  • Handle and manipulate objects and material.
  • Coordinate the movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to complete assigned tasks.
  • Able to utilize adequate visual skills.
  • Able to utilize adequate hearing skills.
  • Ability to work at heights above 12 while working from ladders, scaffolding, and/or man lifts.
  • Extensive physical activity.
  • Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to reach in all directions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
Environmental Conditions
  • Work in all types of weather.
  • Work in different elevations.
  • Job site will contain light to heavy equipment, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools.
  • People standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking.
  • Occasional bells, alarms, and whistles.
  • Exposure to extreme cold, noise exposure, constantly changing work environment, irregular surfaces, slippery surfaces, moving equipment, open excavations, temporary structures, and general construction hazards.
