Job Title: Operations Manager at Salvation Army Camp

Job Summary:

The Salvation Army is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our camp in King's Lake. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the camp, including maintenance, administration, and liaison with emergency disaster services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of camp vehicles and equipment
  • Ensure cleanliness and readiness of camp facilities prior to arrival of rental groups
  • Provide for needed maintenance, repairs, janitorial services, and security throughout each rental group's stay
  • Perform the checkout process before each rental group's stay, checking buildings and property for cleanliness and damages
  • Oversee kitchen set up, maintenance, and preparations for the summer camp season
  • Handle reporting needs as required by DHQ, including maintaining an inventory of equipment, materials, supplies, and furnishings
  • Perform well water tests as required by the State of Alaska in a thorough and timely manner
  • Keep camp roads, trails, and outdoor activity spots clear of downed trees and other blockages
  • Collaborate with DYCS to develop new outdoor activities for summer camp and rentals
  • Collaborate with DHQ to address funding for capital improvements, program, and operation endowments
  • Assist DHQ with reviewing and revising the King's Lake Camp master plan
  • Report to supervisor to discuss any personnel/volunteer issues and/or concerns
  • Provide in-service training to camp staff regarding camp operations and safety

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (preferred but not required)
  • Three years of experience in camp administration in a primary leadership role
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite, office equipment, budget, and recordkeeping processes
  • Proficiency in the use of maintenance tools, power tools, and equipment
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and respond to crises calmly and effectively
  • Strong interpersonal and relational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats
  • Must have a heart for ministry with a commitment to the policies and principles of The Salvation Army
  • Must possess a current Alaska driver's license and an acceptable criminal history and driving record
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred

Work Environment:

The Operations Manager will work in both an indoor office environment and an outdoor camp environment. The position requires the employee to live on-site at the camp and be available to respond to emergencies and be accessible by cellular phone.

Physical Demands:

The Operations Manager must be able to speak, sit, walk, stand, bend, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent basis. The employee must also be able to lift up to 50 lbs., or more with assistance.

Language Skills:

The Operations Manager must be able to understand, follow, and give both written and oral instructions and be comfortable working with diverse individuals in face-to-face contact and over the telephone.

Mathematical Skills:

The Operations Manager must be able to perform simple calculations and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations.

Performance Skills:

The Operations Manager must be punctual, organized, self-motivated, flexible, and possess a desire to learn and assist those he/she interacts with.

Driver Requirements:

The Operations Manager must be a licensed driver with an acceptable driving history and complete and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.
