Job Summary

The National Audubon Society is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Wildlife Conservation Crew Leader to join our team. As a key member of our conservation team, you will be responsible for supervising and training a team of high school students participating in our youth employment program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor and supervise a team of students in the Wildlife Guards Program, providing guidance and support to ensure successful completion of conservation tasks.
  • Develop and implement public outreach programs to engage visitors, families, and friends about the project areas and their wildlife.
  • Collaborate with conservation scientists to monitor and steward critical shoreline habitat, including bird monitoring and habitat restoration work.
  • Track program metrics, including number of people engaged, materials distributed, and hours spent monitoring site.
  • Write weekly reports detailing management activities at each site.
  • Coordinate monitoring efforts with other Audubon CT staff and partners.
  • Organize and lead volunteer events.
Requirements
  • Available from April 15th through August 23rd, 2024.
  • Responsible, mature, and able to serve as a mentor to the students.
  • Coursework in active pursuit of a degree in biology, wildlife management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience supervising high school aged students preferred.
  • Excellent communication and planning skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software required.
  • Weekend work will be required.
  • Knowledge of waterbirds and native/invasive plant species found in CT is desirable.
  • Knowledge of salt marsh systems is desirable.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
  • Must be physically fit, able to walk in a variety of coastal terrain and able to lift/carry at least 30lbs with or without accommodation.
  • Active Basic First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
