Position Overview

The Advanced Respiratory Care Technician (RCA II) operates under the direct supervision of a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in North Carolina.

With oversight from the Medical Director of Respiratory Care and the Respiratory Care Manager, the RCA II is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective respiratory care services.

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the RCA II evaluates, treats, and manages patients of all ages suffering from respiratory conditions and other cardiopulmonary disorders across various clinical environments.

The RCA II is expected to uphold the ethical standards and professional conduct inherent to all healthcare providers.

In addition to performing respiratory care tasks, the RCA II is responsible for accurately documenting all patient interactions and care provided in the medical records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exhibit the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver age-appropriate services. Assess the suitability of prescribed respiratory care by gathering and analyzing clinical data and evaluating the cardiopulmonary status of patients.
  • Develop a respiratory care plan upon patient admission, identifying primary respiratory issues, objectives, and interventions. Update the care plan at least once per shift based on patient progress.
  • Initiate respiratory care, continuously evaluating and monitoring patient responses to achieve desired therapeutic outcomes.
Document and maintain comprehensive records of patient and family education in the medical record, ensuring confidentiality of all patient information.

  • Engage in life-support activities as necessary, responding to emergencies throughout the facility. Administer therapeutic interventions, including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, airway management, lung expansion techniques, and bronchial hygiene.
  • Utilize universal precautions and practice proper hand hygiene between patient interactions. Learn and apply respiratory patient safety protocols to ensure safe care delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including departments, patients, families, and colleagues, both in person and via phone.
  • Demonstrate safe operation of all respiratory equipment in accordance with departmental policies, safety protocols, and quality control standards. Exhibit proficiency in electronic documentation, billing, and processing respiratory orders.
Minimum Qualifications

Active enrollment for over one year in a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care program.

Current American Heart Association BLS Certification.

Active licensure with the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board upon hire.

American Heart Association Advanced Life Support Certification (ACLS) is required within the first year of employment if not already current.
