Patient Care Responsibilities

As a Radiology Technical Assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital, you will play a vital role in ensuring the comfort and safety of patients undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Clearly explaining complex diagnostic procedures to patients and their families, providing them with the necessary information to prepare for their exams.
  • Setting up exam rooms for GI and X-ray procedures, ensuring a clean and organized environment for patients and staff.
  • Assisting radiologists and technologists as needed before, during, and after exams, providing support to ensure smooth and efficient procedures.
  • Transporting patients safely and efficiently to and from exam rooms.
  • Maintaining knowledge of Radiation Safety, Hospital, and Departmental Policies, including Patient Identification Policy and HIPAA, to ensure compliance and patient confidentiality.
Administrative Responsibilities

In addition to patient care responsibilities, you will also be responsible for:

  • Proficiency in EPIC, including all ER PSCII duties, to ensure seamless communication and data management.
  • Answering phone calls and utilizing the paging system to respond to patient and staff inquiries.
  • Understanding department workflow to ensure efficient and effective operations.
Environment of Care

You will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment, including:

  • Monitoring and replenishing department stock and linen supplies to ensure a well-stocked and organized workspace.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized radiographic equipment area, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the location of emergency equipment, code carts, and the procedures necessary to alert the Code Team and Rapid Response Team in the event of an emergency.
Interpersonal Skills

As a Radiology Technical Assistant, you will work closely with patients, families, visitors, and healthcare providers to provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relationships. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Maintaining professional, effective, and constructive working relationships with departmental staff and hospital personnel.
  • Providing excellent communication and interpersonal skills to achieve positive relationships with patients, families, visitors, and other healthcare providers.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Knowledge of universal precautions to ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Proficiency in EPIC to ensure seamless communication and data management.
  • Knowledge of medical and radiology supplies to ensure a well-stocked and organized workspace.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and radiology procedures to ensure accurate and effective communication.
  • Knowledge of proper radiation safety to ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique to ensure patient safety and well-being.
