Patient Care Responsibilities

As a Radiology Technical Assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital, you will play a vital role in ensuring the comfort and safety of patients undergoing diagnostic procedures. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Clearly explaining complex diagnostic procedures to patients and their families, providing them with the necessary information to prepare for their exams.
  • Setting up exam rooms for GI and X-RAY procedures, ensuring a clean and organized environment for patients and staff.
  • Assisting radiologists and technologists as needed before, during, and after exams, providing support to ensure smooth and efficient procedures.
  • Transporting patients safely and efficiently to and from exam rooms.
  • Maintaining knowledge of Radiation Safety, Hospital, and Departmental Policies, including Patient Identification Policy and HIPAA, to ensure compliance and patient confidentiality.
  • Ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the exam process.
Administrative Responsibilities

You will also be responsible for:

  • Proficiency in EPIC, including all ER PSCII duties, to ensure seamless communication and data management.
  • Answering phone calls and utilizing the paging system to maintain effective communication with staff and patients.
  • Understanding department workflow to ensure efficient and organized operations.
Environment of Care

In addition to patient care and administrative responsibilities, you will also be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and replenishing department stock and linen supplies to maintain a clean and well-stocked environment.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment, including radiographic equipment, to ensure a safe and healthy workspace.
  • Maintaining knowledge of emergency equipment, code carts, and procedures necessary to alert the Code Team and Rapid Response Team in case of an emergency.
Interpersonal Skills

As a Radiology Technical Assistant, you will work in harmony with others, functioning as a team member to achieve positive relationships with patients, families, visitors, and other healthcare providers. You will:

  • Work collaboratively with departmental staff and hospital personnel to maintain professional, effective, and constructive working relationships.
  • Maintain positive relationships with patients, families, visitors, and other healthcare providers, contributing to a favorable public image of the hospital.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Technical and Operations Manager.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Knowledge of universal precautions to ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Proficiency in EPIC to manage data and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of medical and radiology supplies to maintain a well-stocked environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and radiology procedures to ensure accurate and effective communication.
  • Knowledge of proper radiation safety to protect patients and staff.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique to maintain a clean and safe environment.

HS Diploma or GED required. 1 year of healthcare experience preferred. Massachusetts General Hospital is an Affirmative Action Employer.
