POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Endoscopy Appointment Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient, patient-centered, and timely arrangement of procedures conducted in the Endoscopy Suite, adhering to established guidelines and protocols.

This position demands a meticulous approach to endoscopy operations, with a strong emphasis on following procedures and prioritizing patient safety. Responsibilities include gathering comprehensive and accurate demographic and insurance information. Collaborates with healthcare providers and staff to prioritize scheduling based on medical necessity, optimizing the use of available resources.

Works in partnership with members of the St. Peter's Health Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Family Practice, and Endoscopy Suite teams to enhance the scheduling of procedures and clinic visits.

Exceptional customer service skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as the role involves effective communication in person and over the phone.

Handles all incoming calls to the Endoscopy Unit for scheduling procedures and related appointments, including pre-admission testing and consultations. Responsible for maintaining the Endoscopy schedule by addressing block time concerns and ensuring awareness of resource availability. Alerts the Practice Administrator or relevant departments of any special requirements or modifications to the Endoscopy schedule.

The Endoscopy Appointment Coordinator often serves as the initial point of contact for the organization, ensuring high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction while accurately collecting patient demographic and third-party information for proper reimbursement.

This role requires familiarity with insurance benefits, referrals, and authorizations. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. All staff members are regarded as employees of St. Peter's Health first, with the expectation of flexibility to assist in other areas when not engaged in their primary responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:
1-2 years of experience in hospital admissions or a physician's office is preferred. Knowledge of healthcare insurance and managed care is advantageous. Familiarity with medical terminology is also preferred.

EDUCATION:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Successful completion of a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program is preferred. This position may qualify for a training assignment, with specific conditions outlined at the time of hire.
CERTIFICATION:

Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant or enrollment in the St. Peter's Health CMA training program, with a requirement to obtain certification upon completion of the training period. Basic Life Support certification is also required, with re-certification every two years.
