Position OverviewIn response to our expanding operations, TRC Field Services (FSV) is looking for additional Lead Commissioning Engineers to enhance our Client Teams nationwide, particularly in the California region.
With a team of over 200 seasoned utility and industrial commissioning engineers and testing technicians, TRC delivers effective, safe solutions to our Electric Utility Customers, complemented by exceptional training programs and mentorship opportunities.
As a leading national provider of testing and commissioning services, our personnel undergo rigorous in-house training to ensure seamless project initiation and compliance with client specifications. We adhere to well-established protocols to manage risks and maintain operational safety.
Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities
- Oversee, coordinate, execute, and document all commissioning processes, including pre-commissioning, construction, testing, energization, and project closure for various utility substation protection, control, and power circuits, adhering to TRC's and client specifications, budgets, and timelines.
- Examine wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents prior to project commencement and outages.
- Conduct troubleshooting and analysis related to protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, addressing issues such as application errors, drawing discrepancies, wiring faults, settings errors, equipment malfunctions, and questionable test results.
- Engage in project meetings, including kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons learned sessions.
- Prepare comprehensive daily, weekly, and project completion reports detailing progress, challenges, recommendations, and test outcomes.
- Assist in the creation of project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization strategies, and other relevant documentation.
- Identify risks associated with utility systems and equipment, developing a Site Risk Assessment to document high-risk activities and formalize circuit isolation and restoration processes to ensure safety.
- Ensure all necessary tests and commissioning activities are performed on each piece of equipment or system, with results documented and distributed appropriately.
- Generate detailed test reports for various electrical equipment and review others' reports for accuracy and completeness.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited institution, along with 10+ years of relevant experience in testing and commissioning services (Electric Utility experience preferred, but we will train individuals with experience in commissioning complex commercial or industrial equipment).
- Proven ability to interpret construction and manufacturer's drawings and specifications, as well as schematic diagrams.
- Strong understanding of electrical protection systems, including relay communication, and a basic knowledge of AC and DC schematics, wiring, and interconnection diagrams.
- Prior experience with medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment, with the ability to perform basic apparatus testing and interpret results under supervision.
- Solid understanding of substation utility protection and control circuits, with the capability to conduct commissioning activities and interpret results with guidance.
- Experience with Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS is highly desirable.
- Eligibility to work in the US, along with a valid driver's license in good standing.
- Willingness to travel out of town for extended periods.
- Availability for flexible working hours, including weekends, overtime, holidays, and night shifts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and negotiate with clients and team members.
