About the Role

The Deputy Director and General Counsel will serve as a senior leader in the State of Indiana's legal affairs, providing strategic guidance and oversight to the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of legal principles, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to the organization's leadership and management teams.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of legal policies and procedures.
  • Manage and supervise a team of legal professionals, including attorneys and support staff.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, courts, and other organizations.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations affecting the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the organization's legal operations and reduce risk.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on legal matters.
  • Manage and oversee the organization's litigation and dispute resolution processes.
  • Develop and maintain a culture of compliance and ethics within the organization.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree and admission to the Indiana State Bar.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior legal role, preferably in a government or public sector organization.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Strong understanding of legal principles and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders.
