Position Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation is in search of a Global Movement Communications Coordinator who possesses a profound expertise in diverse and multilingual storytelling along with digital content production. Reporting directly to the Manager of Movement Communications, you will be an integral member of the Movement Communications team within the broader Communications Department. This team is dedicated to fostering trust and mutual understanding between the Wikimedia Foundation and its extensive network of over 300,000 volunteers and affiliate members worldwide.

In this collaborative role, you will have the opportunity to significantly influence how the Wikimedia Foundation is perceived within the expansive free knowledge ecosystem. Regular interaction with movement members engaged in meaningful initiatives, as well as Foundation staff focused on organizational objectives, will be a key aspect of your work. You will play a vital role in aligning efforts and facilitating effective collaboration. Your responsibilities will include leading and executing communication campaigns that resonate with our global audience, ensuring that all content and narratives align with the Foundation's core values, voice, and tone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consistency: Enhance the coherence and visibility of Foundation communications directed at the movement.
  • Storytelling: Develop innovative, accessible, and translatable storytelling techniques across various mediums, covering topics from product development to governance and advocacy.
  • Connections: Engage with movement members from diverse cultures to ascertain how the Foundation can best support and highlight their contributions.
  • Event Coordination: Assist in organizing and communicating about community events, including our flagship global event, Wikimania.
  • Leadership Support: Aid leadership, including the Board of Trustees and executives, in engaging with the movement through meetings and communications.
  • Metrics: Evaluate and report on progress towards defined objectives.
  • Team Collaboration: Provide support to the broader Movement Communications team and the Communications Department in movement-oriented communications.
  • Additional Tasks: Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the Movement Communications Team leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in multicultural and multilingual communications.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and deliver projects that meet varied needs.
  • Background in journalism, community organizing, advocacy, mission-driven communications, or a related field.
  • Experience in crafting compelling narratives across different formats on a wide range of subjects.
  • Familiarity with various content creation methods, including graphics and basic audio and video production.
  • Proven track record in assessing the effectiveness of community engagement initiatives and adapting strategies for maximum impact.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in at least one additional language.
  • Experience in remote-first, globally distributed work environments.
  • Involvement in Wikimedia projects or contributions to wikis.
