Senior Nursing Executive

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all nursing and designated patient care operations within the healthcare facility. This executive position entails the strategic assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practices at the organizational level. The CNO holds 24/7 accountability for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality nursing care, the competency of clinical staff, and the effective management of resources related to patient care. Additionally, the CNO serves as the nursing representative on the governing board and participates in medical staff leadership discussions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attract and retain top nursing talent within the organization.
- Collaborate with human resources to recruit, onboard, and mentor nursing staff.
- Monitor and analyze workforce metrics to enhance staff engagement and retention.
- Develop and implement programs that promote work-life balance for nursing staff.
- Foster a safe and respectful work environment, addressing issues of harassment and violence.
- Design and promote competency development programs for nursing staff.
- Lead initiatives for employee education and professional development across all levels of nursing.
- Participate in workforce planning to ensure a competent and adequate nursing workforce.
- Support the development of competitive compensation and benefits structures.
COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
- Engage effectively with all stakeholders, including staff, physicians, and external partners.
- Administer human resource policies and programs in alignment with organizational standards.
- Build and maintain trustful relationships across the organization.
- Address conflicts constructively and provide timely feedback to staff.
LEADERSHIP AND INFLUENCE:
- Articulate and promote a shared vision for nursing excellence.
- Develop strategic initiatives to address organizational priorities.
- Establish and monitor performance expectations for nursing staff.
- Implement effective change management strategies to foster organizational growth.
- Mentor and coach emerging nursing leaders.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION:
- Promote an inclusive environment that values diversity among staff and patients.
- Integrate cultural competence into patient care practices.
CLINICAL PRACTICE LEADERSHIP:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices in nursing.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
- Support nursing education and research initiatives within the organization.
- Foster partnerships with academic institutions to enhance nursing education.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:
- Manage financial and material resources efficiently to support nursing operations.
- Implement systems for effective resource allocation in nursing.
QUALITY AND PATIENT SAFETY:
- Contribute to the development of quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor patient safety metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
PROFESSIONAL INTEGRITY:
- Exemplify high ethical standards and accountability in nursing leadership.
- Engage in professional organizations and advocacy for nursing.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A nursing degree is required, with a master's degree in nursing or a related field preferred.
- Current registered nurse license in the state of practice is mandatory.
