We are currently seeking a part-time Community Support Specialist (CSS) who embodies motivation, adaptability, intelligence, energy, responsibility, and organization. The CSS plays a crucial role in providing assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, promoting personal growth and the development of relationships as they integrate into the community.

Direct Support; Empowering Individuals to Thrive:

  • Fostering personal skill enhancement across various life domains through demonstration, teaching, and conversation.
  • Building self-worth by engaging in shared activities rather than performing tasks for them.
  • Offering opportunities for new experiences.
  • Facilitating community involvement through recreation, shopping, and the cultivation of positive relationships.
  • Encouraging individuals to make choices and decisions in all aspects of their lives while providing guidance on decision-making.
  • Establishing respectful relationships to offer support, guidance, and direction when necessary.
  • Assisting in areas where support is needed to achieve a fulfilling life, such as shopping for clothing, sending greetings, or redecorating personal spaces.
  • Teaching and supporting household, community, and personal responsibilities, including shopping, cleaning, and attending medical appointments.
  • Helping individuals navigate social situations to foster comfort and confidence through appropriate interactions and relationship-building.

Team Collaboration; Cultivating a Cohesive Team Environment:

  • Providing support, respect, and constructive feedback to fellow team members.
  • Ensuring clear, concise, and honest communication.
  • Participating in staff meetings and contributing professionally.
  • Covering assigned shifts or arranging suitable replacements with proper notice.
  • Sharing ideas, knowledge, and feelings openly.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and secure workplace for those we support.
  • Assisting with meal preparation.

Health & Safety; Prioritizing Individual Health Needs:

  • Administering medication accurately.
  • Being knowledgeable and competent in addressing individual medical needs, such as seizures and allergies.
  • Consistently attending to personal care needs, including bathing and grooming, with dignity and respect.
  • Accompanying individuals to medical appointments.
  • Documenting and following up on medical consultations.
  • Ordering necessary supplies in advance to ensure timely availability.

Documentation & Communication; Ensuring Information Flow:

  • Reading, documenting, and initialing logbooks and communication records before and after each shift as required.
  • Writing reports promptly following significant events, such as medical appointments.
  • Accurately documenting personal expenditures and other financial records immediately after transactions.
  • Reviewing staff meeting minutes.
  • Engaging in regular communication with team leaders.

Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED is required, with some college education preferred. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about working with people and are attuned to the needs and preferences of individuals with disabilities, including those who may identify as autistic or have disabilities themselves.

Compensation: $19.00 per hour

Benefits: Access to a Work/Life Assistance Program (EAP), options to contribute to pre-tax commuter and medical FSA plans, and a 403b pension plan with employer matching after two years of service. Health, dental, and enhanced short-term disability insurance are available for employees averaging 28 hours per week after a six-month measurement period.
