Job Overview

Primary Objective:

The CNC Milling Machinist III is tasked with the operation of diverse types and sizes of computer numeric controlled (CNC) production machinery, focusing on the machining of forgings or stock to meet specific customer requirements and standards utilizing a range of cutting tools. This role is designated for the first shift, operating Monday through Friday, from 7 AM to 3:30 PM.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage machining tasks without supervision.
  • Adhere to established quality assurance and safety protocols.
  • Interpret work instructions, operation sheets, setup documentation, and inspection checklists provided by supervisory personnel.
  • Read and comprehend dimensional blueprints, tool setup instructions, and manufacturing guidelines to execute required machining processes.
  • Perform complete machine setups autonomously.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on innovative projects.
  • Provide training and support to junior CNC Machinists (Level I and II).
  • Operate various CNC production machines to machine forgings from metals such as stainless steel, aluminum, chrome-nickel, Inconel, and titanium, achieving tight tolerances (e.g., +/- .001) and managing multiple machines concurrently.
  • Manually or mechanically load and unload components; apply coolant lubricants and replace worn or damaged tools as necessary.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators, Vernier scales) to verify machined dimensions and surface finishes in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Exercise caution in handling materials pre- and post-machining.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in CNC machining.
  • Experience in the aerospace sector is essential.
  • Proficiency with large components, large milling operations, and Okuma controls is required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Capability to operate multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously.
  • Turning experience is advantageous alongside the required milling expertise.

Competencies:

  • Solid understanding of fundamental machining principles, GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and program comprehension.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Analytical skills to effectively address and resolve complex issues while implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and measuring devices to ensure accurate setups and machining operations.
