Job Overview

Position Summary:

The CNC Programming Specialist is a vital contributor to our engineering and programming team, facilitating the production of high-precision aerospace components. This position serves as a key link between the Engineering and Manufacturing teams, focusing on the development and programming of CNC machinery, including multi-axis lathes, Swiss screw machines, vertical machining centers, and grinders. The role involves a combination of programming in a CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) environment and hands-on setup on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize ESPIRIT CAM software to create CNC programs (g-code) that enhance manufacturing processes for precision and ultra-precision components.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to establish manufacturing processes, preferred tooling, work-holding methods, in-process deburring, and metrology, which will be documented as approved work instructions for the Production team.
  • Employ parametric programming, macros, and CAM software to refine programs across a range of parts.
  • Set up and operate production equipment during the initial development phase of new components.
  • Identify optimal setups, tool paths, material removal rates, finishes, and yields.
  • Provide training to production staff to ensure a seamless transition and reproducibility in mass production.
  • Manage programs and machine/tool setup data within the company's product data management (PDM) and Distributed Numerical Control (DNC) systems.
  • Act as an in-house subject matter expert, engaging in lean initiatives to enhance existing products, aiming to reduce setup times, machine hours, and improve overall productivity and quality.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in manufacturing technology through research on equipment, software, tooling, and gaging systems.
  • Offer recommendations for productivity enhancements related to technology investments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Relevant progressive experience in the field is considered.
  • A minimum of five years of advanced manufacturing experience, particularly in precision or ultra-precision machining environments.
  • Expertise in CNC programming, including familiarity with Fanuc, Mitsubishi, and Okuma controls, utilizing advanced programming techniques.
  • Frequent user of CAM software, with ESPIRIT being preferred; other software such as Mastercam, PartMaker, or SolidCAM is acceptable.
  • Experience with manufacturing enterprise software is advantageous, particularly with EPCIOR or similar systems.
  • Strong understanding of work-holding, tooling systems, and CNC machine setup.
