Human Resources Director

Job Summary:
The St. Louis Jewish Community Center seeks a highly skilled and experienced Human Resources Director to lead all aspects of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compliance, employee engagement, benefits, and leave administration. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing, developing, and implementing effective people strategies and tactics to drive business results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the organization in strategic planning and play a key role in ensuring successful employee recruitment, engagement, and retention initiatives.
- Continually evaluate and review current HR practices, handbook, and policies to make recommendations for new approaches that support the organization and desired employee culture.
- Oversee all aspects of employee relations, ensuring policies are administered fairly and consistently by providing consultative, training, and coaching support to managers and supervisors.
- Ensure legal compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, and ADA, to minimize risk and exposure to the organization.
- Conduct employee investigations and oversee all escalated employee issues.
- Oversee and manage a performance management system that drives, recognizes, and rewards high performance.
- Review and oversee unemployment and workers' compensation claims.
- Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive compensation and benefits plan that is competitive and cost-effective.
- Participate in budget planning and manage departmental expenses.
- Serve as the liaison to the J employee union and manage Labor Relations Program, coordinate and participate in negotiations as needed.
- Oversee Human Resources communications, including the monthly HR newsletter.
- Back up for Benefits Manager as needed.
- Supervise Volunteer Coordinator.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or organization behavior or related field, master's degree preferred.
- Certifications for Human Resource Professionals (PHR, SPHR) preferred.
- Minimum 7 years' experience as an HR generalist/manager/director, experience with Paylocity preferred.
- Proven progressive HR experience in which both day-to-day and strategic efforts are required.
- Comfortable working in ambiguous situations and adaptable to change.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to analyze and present information in a way that is understood by everyone within the organization.
- Able to effectively delegate, train, and develop team members throughout the organization in HR-related policies and procedures.
- Knowledgeable in the legalities of business law in relation to HR and employee employment rights, including wage & hour laws, recruiting, and any other federal, state, or local laws.
- Strong ability to develop relationships and partner with employees at all levels.
- Extremely well organized and methodical in your approach to problem-solving, documentation, and ability to manage multiple tasks and an ever-changing work environment.
- Demonstrated experience in working alongside executive leadership.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times.
