With 1048 patient beds and 65 operating rooms, we offer a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including a regional emergency/trauma center and an endo-surgery center.

Exciting Opportunities in the Cardiothoracic Unit

The Cardiothoracic Unit at Duke University Hospital is seeking skilled Surgical Technologists to become integral members of our interdisciplinary team. Our unit features 57 operating rooms and collaborates with 18 surgeons, as well as a diverse team of healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Surgical Technologists play a vital role in preparing and caring for surgical patients across all age groups. Under the guidance of a registered nurse, you will:

  • Utilize sterile aseptic techniques and demonstrate a thorough understanding of human anatomy and surgical procedures.
  • Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining a sterile environment and perform accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
  • Support the surgical team by anticipating their needs and ensuring a smooth workflow.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A degree from an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training.
  • Experience as a Surgical Technologist, with a preference for those with 0 to 18 months of experience for Level I positions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
