Job Summary

The School of Medicine's largest department, Internal Medicine, is seeking a Director of Operations to provide strategic management and support to the department's 11 sub-specialty divisions. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, including strategic planning, clinical operations, and human resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Sr. Administrator to oversee the day-to-day operations of the 11 sub-specialty divisions, including strategic planning, clinical operations, and human resources.
  • Establish synchronicity of business processes across all components of the department.
  • Develop and implement programs to ensure daily and long-term objectives are met.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial, operations, and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional decision-making skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to design, manage, and implement programs.
  • Experience serving as a leader by building, leading, motivating, and assessing teams.
  • Experience in holding employees accountable for individual results and drive overall effectiveness of the team.
  • Demonstrate ability to plan and direct the implementation and modification of technological components of multiple functional areas.
  • Demonstrate ability to collect, analyze, and interpret information.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • 10 years' relevant professional experience.
