Job Summary

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Counselor to join the Morgan Academic Center team. As an Academic Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing academic support and counseling services to student-athletes, ensuring their academic success and eligibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate academic support and counseling services for assigned football student-athletes, tracking and monitoring their academic progress and eligibility.
  • Communicate student-athlete academic progress to coaching staffs, athletic administration, and the MAC Director.
  • Teach one section of the student-athlete first-year seminar course as part of the Penn State Alumni Association First-Year Enrichment Program.
  • Refer student-athletes to other appropriate University resources as needed.
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and families throughout the recruiting process.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Director, requiring frequent collaboration with the MAC Associate Director, MAC Assistant Director, and numerous University staff supporting students.
  • Evening and weekend hours will be required for study hall programs and recruiting.
Requirements

This job requires a Master's degree in counselor education, college student personnel, psychology, social work, education, higher education administration, or a related discipline, plus one year of related experience. The position must maintain strict adherence to NCAA and Big Ten Conference rules and regulations affecting the sport and the University. Clearances required include PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
