Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced WIC Nutrition Specialist to join our team at Oswego County Opportunities, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for determining nutrition risk eligibility, prescribing and tailoring the WIC food package, and providing nutrition education for the county-wide WIC Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Nutrition Assessment and Counseling: Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments, determine nutrition risk, and provide participant-centered nutrition counseling to produce behavioral change.
  • Food Package Management: Prescribe, tailor, authorize, issue, and reissue WIC food packages, including those requiring medical documentation.
  • Referral and Follow-up: Provide and document referrals to other health and social services agencies for participants with additional nutrition or health concerns.
  • Program Development and Evaluation: Assist in planning and evaluating participant-centered nutrition education programs, and develop and conduct nutrition training for LA staff.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members to enhance program services to participants.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR/DTR), or a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate health-related field with at least six credit hours in nutrition, or a Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Skills and Abilities: Critical thinking skills, ability to assess nutritional needs and risks, participant-centered nutrition counseling skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Work Environment: The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and will be required to attend trainings, in-services, and seminars for skill maintenance and enhancement.
