Position Overview

The Senior Corporate Accountant is an integral part of the controllership team, responsible for ensuring accurate and timely entries into the general ledger system. This role supports accounting operations, the production of periodic financial reports, and the maintenance of accounting records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key player in the monthly close process, responsible for general ledger entries.
  • Prepare and review reconciliations for all Balance Sheet accounts and significant P&L accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP in all expense recognition policies through continual assessment.
  • Record and reconcile all expense and Balance Sheet related entries.
  • Document general ledger activities including expenses, payroll, accruals, prepaids, and fixed assets/depreciation.
  • Assist in data collection for monthly financial review meetings with executive leadership.
  • Perform and review reconciliations related to banking, balance sheet accounts, and major P&L accounts.
  • Support the annual external financial statement audit.
  • Assist in managing income tax compliance and state/local tax preparations.
  • Contribute to the budget process and the creation of internal control guidelines for financial management.

Process Improvement Initiatives

  • Support efforts to reduce the number of days to close the monthly financials.
  • Assist in implementing systems and processes to enhance processing time while maintaining data accuracy.
  • Promote the segregation of duties in reviewing general ledger activities.
  • Support accounting system implementations and integrations.
  • Help prepare and maintain standard operating procedures for major accounting processes.
  • Facilitate cross-functional training among general ledger accountants.
  • Assist in developing accounting flowcharts for major general ledger processes.

Mergers and Acquisitions Support

  • Assist the management team with system, team, and process integration related to acquisitions.
  • Support valuation work and provide assistance as needed around acquisitions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field; 3+ years of relevant experience preferred, CPA candidate is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of financial data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed company is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in efficient processes and technology utilization.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and technical accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform financial and quantitative analyses.
  • Experience in developing robust processes around month-end close.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of interacting with all functions of a company.
  • Demonstrated success in working cross-functionally as well as independently.
