Summary

Starting pay range for position: $16.42-$19.70 per hour

Under supervision, performs safety and recreational duties overseeing swimming activities and enforcing regulations at the municipal pool.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are not exhaustive. Additional tasks may be assigned.
  • Monitors and patrols the pool area while enforcing safety protocols.
  • Assists swimmers in distress.
  • Administers first aid and resuscitation as necessary.
  • Ensures the facility remains clean and well-maintained.
  • Conducts minor maintenance on pool equipment.
  • Assists in testing and adjusting chemical levels.
  • Supports swim instruction as needed.
  • Participates in required training and meetings.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service by addressing patron inquiries and concerns promptly.
  • Ensures compliance with operational policies and procedures.
  • Responds effectively to emergency situations.
  • Keeps accurate records of facility usage, incidents, and chemical levels.
  • Instructs swim lessons at various levels as assigned.
  • Assists with special events.
  • May work varied schedules and shifts.
Qualifications and Requirements

GUIDANCE AND DECISION MAKING:
  • Procedures and techniques are well defined, with clear options to consider. Tools and materials are specified.
  • Instructions are typically provided during training, involving a series of sequential tasks.
  • Assigned duties are primarily routine, with limited discretion in execution.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Basic KNOWLEDGE, SKILL and/or ability to learn:
  • Understanding of the policies and objectives of the City of Fort Lupton and the department.
  • Familiarity with water safety principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of effective customer service practices.
  • Awareness of aquatics facilities and equipment.
  • Proficiency in life-saving techniques and CPR.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on aquatics equipment.
  • Skill in maintaining records related to aquatics operations.
  • Ability to accurately test and adjust pool chemical levels.
  • Capacity to lead and motivate staff.
  • Ability to respond swiftly and accurately in emergencies.
  • Capability to make sound decisions.
  • Skill in conducting swim lessons.
  • Ability to organize and assist with special events.
  • Commitment to providing quality customer service.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
  • One year of experience in a lifeguard-related role or six months of continuous service as a lifeguard with the City of Fort Lupton.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION:
  • American Red CPR-Professional Rescuer
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
  • AED Certification
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • None
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, swim, rescue, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, twist, push, pull, jump, climb, reach, talk, hear, and see. The employee must frequently lift light to heavy objects, up to 50 lbs.
