About the Role

The Process and Design Support Engineer will play a vital role in our engineering team, responsible for the development, drafting, and design of wiring harnesses and Bills of Materials used in automotive upfit projects. This position will interface with facility management, providing technical upfit guidance as needed to ensure that customer vehicles are completed to company standards and meet customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating accurate bills of materials for automotive manufacturing projects, including preparing complete vehicle configuration BOMs while selecting automotive products and ensuring integration with vehicle systems.
  • Maintaining and updating the bill of materials as required by processing engineering change orders and updating the ERP system.
  • Interacting and collaborating with other departments (Sales, Supply Chain Management, Production, Project Teams) to ensure BOM development and design activities align with project needs.
  • Designing automotive wire harnesses that integrate with vehicle systems and third-party products.
  • Creating part schematics and issuing drawings for production, controlling drawing revisions and engineering changes.
  • Providing technical and diagnostic support for issues arising during production.
  • Ensuring installation guidelines are followed and quality meets company standards.
  • Supporting and conducting training sessions to ensure understanding of processes.
  • Writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Process Sheets, and communicating any changes to production.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production efficiency and reduce downtime.
Requirements

  • Post-secondary graduate with a technical degree, diploma, or certificate in a related technical or engineering field. Higher consideration will be given to those with an Electrical or Automotive Engineering background.
  • Previous experience in automotive manufacturing is preferred, with hands-on mechanical skills considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with designing and drafting automotive wiring harnesses and sheet metal parts using relevant software is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and BOM product structures.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to balance multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis.
  • Creative ability to identify potential process and product improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, for cross-department collaboration.
  • Valid driver's license and passport are required.
  • 15-20% travel is required.
