Job Summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineering Department Manager to lead our Civil Engineering team in Hammond, IN. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, technical expertise in civil engineering, and excellent leadership skills.

The Department Manager will be responsible for managing civil engineering projects, providing technical guidance, and overseeing the execution of departmental activities. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, project management experience, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage civil engineering projects from initiation to completion
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to team members
  • Develop and implement operational plans for the department
  • Establish and execute policies, standards, and procedures for engineering and technical work
  • Function as Project Manager and/or Senior Engineer on specific projects
  • Prepare and guide the preparation of engineering proposals, project schedules, and cost estimates
  • Review and check engineering calculations, designs, drawings, and other project documents
  • Certify and PE-seal designs, drawings, and documents as required
  • Develop and maintain technical standards and specifications
  • Provide customer support as a technical liaison and support regional business development initiatives

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is required
  • Master's degree, Project Management Training, and/or PMP Certification are a plus
  • Successful experience in managing engineering resources, preferably in a consulting engineering environment
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills with clients and engineering personnel
  • Project management experience, including an understanding of project management and project control principles/tools
