Position Overview:

The Veterinary Rehabilitation Specialist will play a crucial role in providing thorough and timely medical attention to our patients. Responsibilities include performing physical assessments, interpreting diagnostic results, and administering appropriate treatments. The specialist will also maintain detailed records of all services provided and ensure effective communication with clients and referring veterinarians regarding patient care and treatment strategies.

This role involves leadership and mentorship, guiding the team of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs) and Assistants within the Physical Rehabilitation department. The ideal candidate will foster a positive work atmosphere while delivering exceptional care to both patients and their owners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Collaborate with fellow veterinarians and staff to cultivate a supportive work environment that meets the needs of pet owners, patients, and the veterinary team.
  • Provide daily coaching and direction to the rehabilitation team, ensuring optimal workflow and patient outcomes.
  • Engage in problem-solving with the team and facilitate open communication among all members.
  • Participate in regular meetings and performance reviews, setting annual and quarterly goals for personal and team development.

Operational Duties:

  • Design and implement rehabilitation therapy plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory and radiographic evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all patient interactions and treatments in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and standard operating procedures within the rehabilitation department.
  • Contribute to a clean and professional hospital environment.
  • Engage in continuing education to enhance both technical and leadership skills.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine.
  • Experience in physical rehabilitation and general veterinary practice is preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in medical calculations and understanding of animal anatomy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to compassionate patient care and continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs independently and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic environment with exposure to animal sounds and various medical situations.
