Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate RN to join our Transfer Center team at Miami Children's. As a Transfer Center RN, you will play a critical role in facilitating hospital-to-hospital transfers while adhering to EMTALA guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain trusting relationships with referring parties through excellent customer service.
  • Collaborate with physicians, hospital staff, and patients/families to ensure seamless transfers.
  • Coordinate transfers from external facilities, ensuring compliance with EMTALA guidelines and hospital policies.
  • Secure clinical information and verify insurance benefits for all transfer requests.
  • Document all communication, demographic information, and clinical information for each transfer.
  • Collaborate with bed control and patient access to ensure accurate bed assignments and patient registration.
  • Follow EMTALA guidelines and hospital policies to avoid regulatory, compliance, or legal issues.
  • Utilize knowledge of InterQual and/or MCG criteria to determine appropriate levels of care for transfers.
  • Provide hand-off reports and secure authorization from payers as necessary.
Requirements
  • RN licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC).
  • American Heart Association BLS and PALS certifications.
  • Previous nursing experience in an acute care healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN degree.
  • Pediatric nursing experience in an acute care setting or experience in case management/transfer center.
  • Knowledge of InterQual or MCG to determine levels of care.
