Position Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician specializing in medication history plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate medication records for incoming patients. This position involves gathering comprehensive medication histories and documenting them efficiently in the electronic medical record system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collects detailed medication histories from various sources, including patients, their families, pharmacies, physician offices, or long-term care facilities.
  • Exhibits diligence in thoroughly exploring and verifying medication histories.
  • Maintains effective communication with pharmacists, including posing relevant questions and referring cases for further interviews or interventions as necessary.
  • Utilizes sound clinical judgment to update and maintain the most accurate medication list possible.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and staff of diverse backgrounds, while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
  • Serves as a positive role model for colleagues, consistently embodying the organization's core values.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.

Performance Standards:

Expectations regarding performance will be discussed during the orientation and training phases of employment.

  • Exhibits strong communication skills and collaborates effectively with team members.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to all stakeholders.
  • Completes tasks with meticulous attention to detail, striving for the highest quality in medication history documentation.
  • Demonstrates initiative in maintaining licensure and certification standards.
  • Possesses the ability to perform technician responsibilities as determined by supervisory staff.
  • Displays a foundational understanding of the 340b program and compliance with USP 800 standards.

Qualifications:

Education and Skills:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; coursework in science and mathematics is advantageous.

Experience:

Prior experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting is essential.

Certification and Licensure:

Registration with the appropriate state pharmacy board is mandatory upon hire, along with successful completion of the National Technician Certification Examination.

Mental Requirements:

The role requires the ability to perform repetitive tasks, work collaboratively, follow instructions precisely, and demonstrate initiative. Candidates must be capable of maintaining accuracy under time constraints, managing frequent interruptions, and adapting to varying workloads. Additionally, the ability to prioritize tasks and respond promptly to urgent requests is crucial, particularly in high-pressure environments.
