Pharmaceutical History Technician

Position Overview:
The Pharmacy Technician for Medication History plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate medication records for incoming patients. This position involves collecting comprehensive medication histories and entering them into the electronic medical record system efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather medication histories from various sources including patients, their families, pharmacies, and healthcare providers.
- Engage in effective communication with pharmacists, seeking clarification and referring patients for further evaluation when necessary.
- Utilize sound clinical judgment to compile the most accurate medication list possible.
- Exhibit professionalism and sensitivity while interacting with patients, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Serve as a positive example for colleagues, embodying the organization's core values.
- Complete additional tasks as required by management.
Performance Standards:
Expectations for performance will be discussed during the onboarding and training phases.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Maintain meticulous attention to detail while performing duties.
- Show initiative in fulfilling licensure and certification obligations.
- Demonstrate capability in executing technician responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
- Understand the fundamentals of the 340b program.
- Comprehend the requirements of USP 800 compliance.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory; coursework in science and mathematics is advantageous.
Experience:
Prior experience in retail or hospital pharmacy settings is essential.
Certification/Licensure:
Registration with the relevant state pharmacy board is required upon hiring.
Successful completion of the National Technician Certification Examination is also necessary.
Mental Requirements:
The role demands the ability to perform repetitive tasks, work collaboratively, follow instructions accurately, and show initiative. Candidates must be capable of maintaining focus and accuracy under time constraints, managing frequent interruptions, and adapting to changing workloads. Additionally, the ability to prioritize tasks and address problems effectively is crucial, especially in high-pressure situations.
