Position Summary:

As a News Assignment Editor within the Network News Desk, you will collaborate with a dedicated team to oversee all aspects of domestic news coverage. Your role will involve providing both editorial and logistical support across various platforms, including broadcast, cable, digital, and streaming.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the collection and dissemination of news materials.
  • Conduct thorough research and implement coverage strategies for breaking news and ongoing stories.
  • Quickly assess and respond to the needs of breaking news coverage.
  • Collaborate with NBC News digital, streaming, and broadcast teams on newsgathering and content distribution initiatives.
  • Maintain communication with essential departments such as Legal and Standards to ensure proper editorial guidance is followed.
  • Utilize data to enhance newsgathering, storytelling, and audience engagement.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with affiliates and News Channel counterparts.
  • Monitor and leverage social media platforms and online resources.
  • Manage requests from various platforms for field assignments.
  • Participate in daily network-wide editorial meetings.
  • Maintain organized story and contact files.
  • Monitor competitive broadcasts and digital platforms.
  • Develop comprehensive story coverage plans with management oversight.
  • Work closely with Network, MSNBC, and NBC News Now teams to fulfill on-air requirements.
  • Coordinate with technical and operations staff for resource management.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years of editorial production experience in a network, cable, or digital environment.
  • Proficient in newsroom systems and various social media platforms.
  • Strong understanding of television production and affiliate operations.
  • Excellent news judgment and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and prioritize effectively.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, under tight deadlines.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for news and current events.
