Position Overview

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is in search of a visionary leader to oversee the Interprofessional Academy of Educators (IAE).

The mission of the Academy is to foster a collaborative community among educators from various professions, promoting innovation, collaboration, and scholarly activities.

The IAE supports faculty and staff across multiple colleges, including Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Public Health, as well as the Graduate College and affiliated institutes. Additionally, the Academy engages community preceptors, alumni, and health science students in educational initiatives.

As a pivotal figure in UNMC's educational advancement, the Director will report to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and collaborate closely with several educational bodies:

• The Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL) – a premier center for interdisciplinary simulation and virtual reality training.

• The Education Council – comprising senior academic affairs deans at UNMC.

• The Office of Faculty Development at UNMC.

• The Office of Health Professions Education at Nebraska Medicine.

• The Promotion and Tenure committees across each college.

This is an administrative role with a limited term, subject to renewal. The successful candidate will hold a senior academic position with a relevant faculty appointment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Leadership:
    • Manage daily operations of the IAE, coordinating with Associate Directors and support staff.
    • Chair quarterly meetings of the IAE Special Interest Group chairs.
    • Oversee membership processes in collaboration with the IAE Membership Committee.
    • Promote an authentic interprofessional culture within the Academy.
    • Assist in forming IAE Interest Groups and subcommittees as necessary.
    • Partner with Distance Education to host an annual program (InnovatED) that encourages educational innovation.
    • Supervise Teaching Launchpad, offering workshops and resources for educator professional development.
    • Collaborate with IAE Educational Researchers to enhance educational research and scholarship.
    • Manage the distribution of IAE Education Research Grant awards.
    • Support curriculum development and faculty integration into iEXCEL.
    • Represent the IAE at various academic meetings.
    • Ensure the Academy meets its objectives, including:
      • Defining and rewarding scholarship
      • Promoting teaching and research scholarship
      • Setting and achieving scholarship goals
      • Collaborating with key campus units to enhance teaching quality
      • Collecting and analyzing data for annual reporting of Academy accomplishments.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A terminal professional degree (e.g., DDS, EdD, MD, PharmD, PhD) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant academic experience, including leadership in an educational setting.
  • Experience in interprofessional education.
  • Membership in the UNMC Interprofessional Academy of Educators.
  • A record of research in teaching and learning, with successful funding and publications.
  • Proven excellence in classroom instruction for health sciences students.
  • Knowledge of best practices in pedagogy and educational technology.
  • Experience in fostering learning communities for curricular innovation.
  • A commitment to diversity and success for historically underrepresented groups in higher education.
  • Experience in budget and personnel management.
  • Engagement in national teaching and learning organizations.

Supplemental Qualifications
  • Five years of program coordination experience in higher education.
  • Successful mentoring or supervising experience.
  • Ability to lead and motivate diverse teams.
  • Experience in securing and managing external grants.
  • Demonstrated success with diverse student and community populations.
