Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Department Administrator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the department, including coordinating events, managing budgets, and providing administrative support to faculty and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate all administrative functions and day-to-day operations of the department
  • Develop and manage department budgets, including operating accounts, gifts, and endowments
  • Coordinate faculty searches, visiting and research faculty appointments, tenure cases, and other internal department support
  • Assist with teaching course schedules, coordinate cross-listing of courses, and communicate requirements to students
  • Serve as the primary point of contact representing the program to the institution and external constituencies
  • Responsible for the management, coordination, and implementation of all department events
  • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures, maintaining comprehensive records and determining retention and disposition for specific information
  • Manage all space-management activities, including lab renovations, building improvements, general maintenance, office space assignments, and access issues
  • Hire, train, and supervise administrative assistants and student employees, and work with faculty and HR on personnel-related matters
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of financial and budget principles and procedures
  • Ability to acquire new technical skills and implement new procedures
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and security
  • Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community
