Stanford, California, United States MongoDB Full time

The global market for data management software is extensive, with significant growth projected in the coming years. At MongoDB, we are at the forefront of this transformation, enabling developers to create innovative applications that are widely utilized. As a premier developer data platform, we invite you to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission of innovation and excellence.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Sales Compensation Accounting Manager to join our Sales Compensation team. This role presents an excellent opportunity to engage actively and make a meaningful impact within a rapidly expanding organization. In this influential position, you will collaborate closely with executives and various internal departments, including Sales, Sales Operations, Sales Analytics, Deal Desk, Business Systems, Finance, Accounting, and HR, to enhance and establish processes and systems that support our growth trajectory. This hands-on role will report directly to the Director of Sales Compensation and will be instrumental in the development and ongoing management of our sales incentive programs, as well as overseeing the sales commission calculation and payout procedures.
Your Contributions Will Include:

  • Overseeing MongoDB's commission accounting and managing the monthly closing process for both domestic and international operations. This involves close coordination, recording and reviewing journal entries, conducting account reconciliations, and performing fluctuation analysis.
  • Managing a team of two direct reports.
  • Leading reconciliations of actuals to budget and serving as the primary contact for the FP&A team.
  • Collaborating with Sales Operations, FP&A, and the Commissions Manager to assess new compensation plan modifications and evaluate their accounting implications and operational viability.
  • Addressing the increased complexity of commissions accounting arising from changes in accounting regulations.
  • Acting as the dedicated subject matter expert for MongoDB's Capitalized Commission Process.
  • Managing commission SOX controls and liaising with internal and external auditors, while enforcing and refining our commissions accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP, including Technical Accounting Memos.
  • Driving continuous enhancements to the closing process through automation and reevaluating legacy processes, while maintaining and drafting process documentation.
  • Assisting with system integration initiatives, which encompass the implementation of various finance and accounting solutions (e.g., Xactly CEA Accrual, Xactly Incent, NetSuite, etc.).
Qualifications and Skills:
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience.
  • CPA certification is required.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in people management.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, and SOX.
  • Familiarity with business systems such as Xactly, NetSuite, and Floqast is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of internal controls over financial reporting and the ability to implement controls to mitigate business risks.
  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
  • Experience in scaling processes from inception to a highly optimized state.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of incentive plan structures (quotas, accelerators, pay mix, and on-target earnings) and systems.
  • Capability to thrive in a multifaceted and rapidly growing environment with shifting priorities.
Personal Attributes:
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong collaborative abilities.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently and taking initiative.
  • Ability to innovate and think creatively, identifying problems or opportunities for improvement and providing effective solutions.
