The Senior Construction Project Leader is responsible for strategizing, overseeing, and executing designated design and construction initiatives to meet organizational objectives within established timelines and budget constraints. This role necessitates effective communication with field personnel, technical teams, other contractors, and upper management. The Senior Construction Project Leader will facilitate both internal and external collaboration with project partners and stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, this position will also involve managing and mentoring a team of civil engineers and project managers to fulfill company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of project managers and civil engineers to meet operational goals.
  • Identify and assess prospective projects that align with company interests.
  • Conduct thorough constructability assessments of project documentation and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Guide the development of construction procurement documents, including plans, through consultation and feedback.
  • Oversee daily project activities during construction phases, coordinating efforts and providing status updates.
  • Engage in collaborative sessions with agencies and organizations to gather performance feedback and foster strong industry relationships.
  • Assist in project procurement utilizing various delivery methods, including Design/Bid/Build, Design/Build, and innovative project delivery strategies.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries to maintain project schedules.
  • Deliver regular, detailed reports on project status, resource allocation, completion metrics, and future forecasting.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure alignment with timelines and budgetary expectations.
  • Evaluate potential Change Orders and provide detailed impact analyses on budget and schedule.
  • Regularly review project timelines and assess construction progress, providing feedback to leadership.
  • Facilitate and lead project meetings with contractors, consultants, and external agencies to ensure objectives are met.
  • Communicate project-related issues, scope alterations, and contingencies to leadership, fostering collaborative solutions.
  • Engage effectively with project partners, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Resolve conflicts among contractors, engineering consultants, and other parties, taking a lead role in dispute resolution.
  • Coordinate invoicing efforts between the company and clients efficiently.
  • Consult with the project management team on various project matters.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to industry organizations as needed.
  • Manage project budgets with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or State Civil Engineer certification.
  • A minimum of 10 years in the highway or related industry, with at least 8 years in construction management for highway projects.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a managerial capacity within project management.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively coordinate with the project management team.
  • Ability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic and technically proficient.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience managing large-scale, multi-million-dollar projects.
  • Familiarity with innovative project delivery methods such as Design-Build or public-private partnerships.
