We are currently seeking a Technician specializing in fire testing to enhance our Building Products team in Tulsa, OK. The ideal candidate will possess a technical diploma and have a minimum of four years of experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment, particularly within the testing, inspection, and certification sector. Familiarity with ASTM, UL, and CSA test methods relevant to building products is essential. Flexibility in work hours and the willingness to work overtime when necessary is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate inter-company or contracted work and prepare necessary purchase orders.
  • Ensure project resources are available and assist Project Managers with project timelines and budget management.
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of products according to QAI's competency matrix.
  • Review test reports and documentation for compliance, and assist in preparing written and verbal reports for clients and management.
  • Maintain a high level of technical proficiency in the relevant field.
  • Oversee the timely completion of assigned projects.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts, standard requirements, and QAI processes to clients.
  • Interpret test methods and standards, seeking guidance from senior technical staff as needed.
  • Support the sales team with quotations, including reviewing quotes and interpreting test standards.
  • Follow provided work instructions and assist senior technicians as required.
  • Organize and maintain inventory cleanliness.
  • Engage professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Contribute positively to a dynamic team environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or designee.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Diploma in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred 4+ years of experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment.
  • Knowledge of US and Canadian building codes and recognized safety standards is advantageous.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards for product certification, testing, and inspection.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel, with strong skills in Email and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Demonstrated good laboratory practices essential for product testing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.

Technical Competencies:

  • Ability to follow instructions for testing beyond general knowledge and experience.
  • Capability to grasp general concepts in testing and apply them to specific methods.
  • Able to perform testing and progress to more complex methods as knowledge increases.
  • Seek assistance from senior personnel when faced with unfamiliar requirements.
  • Possess a solid understanding of test methods within their discipline.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsibility for assigned projects.
