Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a dedicated Technician to join our Fire Testing team. The ideal candidate will possess a technical diploma and a minimum of four years of experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment, particularly within the testing, inspection, and certification sector. Familiarity with ASTM, UL, and CSA test methods related to building products is highly desirable. Flexibility in work hours and willingness to work overtime when necessary is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate inter-company or contracted work and generate necessary purchase orders.
  • Ensure project resources are available and assist Project Managers with project timelines and budget management.
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of products in accordance with QAI's competency matrix.
  • Review test reports and documentation for compliance; assist in preparing written and verbal reports for clients and management.
  • Maintain a high level of technical proficiency in the relevant field.
  • Oversee the timely completion of assigned projects.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts and standard requirements to clients.
  • Interpret test methods and standards, seeking guidance from senior personnel when necessary.
  • Support the sales team with quotations and test standard interpretations as needed.
  • Follow provided work instructions and assist senior technicians as required.
  • Organize and maintain inventory.
  • Engage professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Contribute positively to a dynamic team environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Diploma in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment.
  • Knowledge of US and Canadian building codes and safety standards is advantageous.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards for product certification and testing.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Email, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong laboratory practice skills essential for product testing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to adapt to a flexible work schedule and work overtime as required.

Technical Competencies:

  • Ability to follow instructions for testing outside of general knowledge.
  • Capability to grasp general concepts in testing and apply them to specific methods.
  • Willingness to seek assistance from senior personnel when necessary.
  • Good understanding of test methods in the specific discipline.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Demonstrates ownership and responsibility for assigned projects.

  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license.
