Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Technician specializing in fire testing to enhance our Building Products team. The ideal candidate will possess a technical diploma and a minimum of four years of relevant experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment. Familiarity with ASTM, UL, and CSA test methods related to building products is essential. Flexibility in work hours and willingness to work overtime when necessary is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate inter-company or contracted work and generate necessary purchase order requests.
  • Ensure project resources are available and assist Project Managers with project milestones and budget management.
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of products in accordance with QAI's competency matrix.
  • Review test reports and documentation for compliance, providing assistance with written and verbal reports to clients and management.
  • Maintain a high level of technical proficiency in the relevant field.
  • Oversee the timely completion of assigned projects.
  • Communicate technical concepts, standard requirements, and QAI processes effectively to clients.
  • Interpret test methods and standards, seeking guidance from senior personnel when necessary.
  • Support the sales team with sales quotations, including review of quotes and test standard interpretation.
  • Execute provided work instructions and assist senior technicians as needed.
  • Organize and maintain inventory cleanliness.
  • Engage professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Contribute positively to a dynamic team environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or designee.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Diploma in a related engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment.
  • Knowledge of US and Canadian building codes and recognized safety standards is advantageous.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards for product certification, testing, and inspection.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Email, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as required.

Technical Competencies:

  • Ability to follow instructions for testing beyond general knowledge.
  • Capability to grasp concepts in testing and apply them to specific methods.
  • Ability to perform testing and progress to more complex methods as knowledge increases.
  • Seek assistance from senior personnel for requirements outside general knowledge.
  • Good understanding of test methods within the specific discipline.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and accurately.
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsibility for assigned projects.
