The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) is a prominent professional medical organization committed to enhancing patient care and improving lives through minimally invasive, image-guided procedures.

Based in Fairfax, Virginia, SIR is at the forefront of one of the most innovative and competitive specialties in the medical field today. As a 501(c)(6) professional association, SIR serves nearly 9,000 interventional radiology physicians, trainees, medical students, scientists, and clinical professionals.

Additionally, SIR encompasses the SIR Foundation, a 501(c)(3) entity focused on research and fundraising to advance the future of interventional radiology.

Together, SIR and the SIR Foundation employ nearly 50 staff members, with combined annual revenues of $10 million and assets totaling $18 million.

Position Overview

SIR is seeking a Volunteer Engagement Intern to collaborate with our team and members. This role is integral to the society's membership and volunteer initiatives, working closely with staff and physician volunteers.

The intern will assist the Manager of Volunteer Engagement in coordinating activities across the society's three membership sections: Early Career Section (ECS), Underrepresented Minorities in IR (URM), and Women in IR (WIR).

Responsibilities include supporting section projects and educational webinars, aiding in the planning of the society's scientific annual meeting, leading various volunteer opportunities, and helping to finalize internal and external materials for the society's volunteer program and online community forum.

This is a remote internship with flexible hours, requiring a commitment of 10 to 15 hours per week. The majority of hours will be scheduled on Mondays and Fridays, with occasional evening availability for online webinars.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the planning, marketing, and execution of recorded and live webinars for the ECS, URM, and WIR sections.
  • Facilitating direct contact with volunteers to support the society's ad-hoc volunteer opportunities.
  • Collaborating with the Manager of Volunteer Engagement to finalize materials for the society's volunteer program and online community forum.
  • Assisting in the planning for SIR's Scientific Annual Meeting.
Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in MS Office (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with G Suite tools (Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Sheets).
  • Experience with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other virtual conferencing tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities, with a capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience with member associations or working alongside volunteers.

Education:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program.

Working Conditions:

The role is set in a small, fast-paced office environment with moderate noise levels. Employees have the option for hybrid or fully remote work based on position requirements. The role involves extended use of phones and computers, with general mobility required to navigate the workspace.
