Job Summary

Washington City is seeking a highly skilled Public Works Inspector to join our team. As a Public Works Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with established local, state, and federal engineering construction standards. This includes inspecting and monitoring work in progress related to public and private development and capital improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine and complex inspections monitoring public infrastructure and construction practices for a variety of public works projects.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings with engineers, developers, contractors, and various utility representatives as it pertains to the civil construction plans and standards.
  • Approve continuance of work progress or issue "stop work" notices, in consultation with supervisor, based upon compliance to standards and project specifications.
  • Maintain all required records and documentation of the project, including daily inspection logs, testing results, pictures, as-builts, etc.
  • Discuss construction problems with contractor or personnel; evaluate the scope of the problem and determine alternative course(s) of action; exercise professional judgment where errors could produce costly consequences.

Requirements
  • Graduation from high school, plus, Two (2) years of specialized training in engineering methods and practices related to testing, compliance and SWPPP compliance.
  • Two (2) years of responsible experience performing above or related duties; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions
  • Tasks require a variety of physical activities not generally involving muscular strain. Frequent physical activity related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and moderate lifting.
  • Essential functions require talking, hearing, and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, and discriminating thinking.
