Established in Austin, Texas, MLF operates through three primary initiatives: Truck Ministry, Community First Village, and Community Works. Community First Village is a significant development aimed at providing affordable, permanent housing and a nurturing environment for individuals overcoming chronic homelessness.


Role Summary

The Senior Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role within the Grounds & Facilities Department. This position not only requires a diverse skill set in maintenance and repair tasks but also involves leadership and mentorship responsibilities for the Maintenance Team at Community First Village.

This is a full-time, non-exempt role reporting to the Maintenance Manager. The position involves various maintenance tasks within the community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct maintenance and preventive upkeep on residential units, recreational vehicles, and administrative buildings, covering areas such as HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and general repairs.
  • Independently manage, prioritize, and update work orders using the designated management system.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager and external contractors for specialized repairs beyond personal expertise.
  • Communicate material requirements to the procurement agent.
  • Inspect received materials for quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Inform the Maintenance Manager of any project delays or issues that may impact timelines.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and report any hazards to the safety team.
  • Provide training and mentorship to fellow team members while being open to learning new skills.
  • Participate in all necessary meetings and team-building activities.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Alignment with MLF's mission and values, particularly in serving those experiencing homelessness.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance, particularly in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing disciplines.
  • Management experience is advantageous.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to build effective relationships with residents and colleagues.
  • Proficient in diagnosing and repairing issues on the first attempt.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance practices, including HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Effective communication skills with a positive demeanor.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as MS Office and Appfolio is beneficial.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Capability to safely use ladders and perform tasks at heights.
  • Physical demands include prolonged standing, kneeling, walking, and lifting up to 80 lbs.
  • Proficient in using a range of hand and power tools.
