The United Schools Network (USN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educational excellence in Columbus, Ohio. Since the establishment of its first school in 2008, USN has collaborated with exceptional leaders to launch additional schools, striving to bridge the opportunity gap in the community. The mission of USN is to transform lives and communities through the power of education, ensuring that every child has access to quality learning opportunities.

Currently, USN operates two successful elementary schools and two high-performing middle schools, serving over 800 students. The organization is committed to providing a rigorous academic experience within a supportive and engaging learning environment, focusing on intentional student support and continuous improvement.

Role Description

The Teaching Fellow position offers a distinctive opportunity for individuals aspiring to enter the field of education. This role provides hands-on experience and essential training to develop into a successful full-time classroom teacher. Teaching Fellows will have the chance to observe and learn from seasoned educators, engage in best practices in classroom instruction, cover for teachers as needed, co-teach with experienced staff, and assist with tutoring, grading, and small-group instruction. The goal is for Teaching Fellows to become candidates for full-time teaching roles in the subsequent school year, with the potential to gradually take on classroom responsibilities throughout the fellowship.

Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. degree with the ability to obtain the necessary teaching license.
  • Experience in urban educational settings is preferred.

  • Commitment to data-driven instructional practices and the methodologies outlined in Teach Like a Champion 3.0 to enhance student outcomes.
  • Dedication to writing, refining, and internalizing curriculum, lessons, and assessments.
  • Openness to receiving and implementing feedback from colleagues.
  • Effective communication skills with students, families, and peers.
  • Proficiency with Google applications for communication and task completion.

Employment Terms:

  • This is a full-time position with typical working hours from Monday to Friday.
  • Salary starts at $35,000 for new Teaching Fellows with a Bachelor's degree, with variations based on experience and education.
