If you find fulfillment in using your technical skills in a supportive role, consider the Breastfeeding Support Specialist position with the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program. This initiative is designed to assist pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children in understanding nutrition for better health outcomes.
The WIC program plays a vital role in enhancing birth outcomes, alleviating food insecurity, encouraging breastfeeding, and improving the nutritional health of women and children enrolled in the service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing education to pregnant women and their families regarding the advantages of breastfeeding.
- Supporting new mothers in mastering breastfeeding techniques.
- Facilitating breastfeeding workshops in person, through virtual platforms, and in various community locations.
- Collaborating with WIC Nutritionists to offer breastfeeding consultations for program participants.
- Instructing WIC participants on the proper use of breast pumps when necessary.
- Keeping accurate records and inventory of breastfeeding supplies and ensuring the maintenance of breastfeeding equipment.
- Conducting client interviews to assess income eligibility for WIC program enrollment based on established criteria.
- Issuing food benefits in accordance with dietary prescriptions, ensuring necessary documentation is completed and organized.
- Managing appointment scheduling through computerized systems and following up on missed and upcoming appointments.
- Handling a multi-line phone system and efficiently processing incoming calls.
- Reaching out to participants via text and phone to assist with document uploads and the overall process.
- Measuring clients' height, weight, and conducting finger stick blood tests.
- Exhibiting a welcoming, customer-focused, and compassionate demeanor.
REQUIREMENTS
- A genuine passion for breastfeeding and sharing knowledge with others.
- A commitment to assisting individuals and navigating challenging situations with empathy.
- A strong desire to work with diverse communities.
- Personal experience with successful breastfeeding.
- The ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment.
- Proficiency in computer skills and a willingness to learn complex software applications.
- Capability to understand and apply relevant governmental regulations.
- Flexibility to work across various WIC clinics in the Amarillo area.
- Availability to work Monday through Saturday during various hours.
- Willingness to provide support to breastfeeding WIC participants outside of regular clinic hours.
